One family’s travels through COVID19 - Los Cabos

Originally we had planned to go to Portugal this summer with our two kids. Our oldest had just finished her first year of college so we wanted a fun adventure for her. Well COVID19 had other plans and left us patiently waiting for the world to reopen.

We started keeping an eye out for countries that were reopening and allowing international travel. Mexico was one of the first to reopen and as I mentioned in my previous blog (One family’s travels through COVID19 - Cancun ), it’s just so easy for us. We decided to wait until Mid-July to travel, to give the airports, airlines, and hotels time to work out the kinks.  The airport was a ghost town, everyone had on masks and kept their distance.

We chose Hyatt Ziva in Cabo San Lucas for this trip. Hyatt is one of our favorite all-inclusive brands. They provide excellent service at all of their properties/locations. The Ziva locations have so much to offer for the whole family. ID90 Travel usually has deals on this resort and booking last minute we scored room rates at 40% off.

The hotel had a 30% occupancy limit but in truth it felt like 10%!. It was so quiet and peaceful. Because of the lower occupancy limits there were a few changes. Only two of the four restaurants were open each night, but they rotated them, so we were still able to eat at all of them. (The Italian restaurant is our favorite). Just check the schedule each morning before making reservations. Hyatt Ziva Cabo always has the best pool food. Normally they bring out chefs to cook at a station next to the pool and have little carts that serve different foods throughout the day. This was not happening this time, understandably. Other than those changes everything else was normal. All staff wore masks at all times, however guests are not required to do so, but some people did. Hand sanitizer was everywhere, and they had attendants at every door giving you some before you entered a common space. They still had their nightly shows, kids club and pool activities.
