One family’s travels through COVID19 - Cancun

I have been to Mexico four times this year, and three of them were during the pandemic. I have a 9 year old and an 18 year old and sometimes that age gap has me planning vacations a little differently. I always have to search for a resort that has something for us and both kids. Living in Texas, Mexico is always the quickest and most affordable option. It’s a short flight and I love their all inclusive options. I tend to lean towards all inclusive resorts because I like being able to try lots of different foods and beverages without breaking the bank.

Our first Mexico pandemic trip this year was to Moon Palace. Spring Break in Texas is mid March and the pandemic was just hitting the US. We were not really aware of the magnitude of it until we were already in Mexico, so it never crossed our mind to postpone this trip. We had 12 adults and 14 kids (let that sit in a minute…14 kids)! All of us used ID90 Travel to book and even during Spring Break with months of notice, we all saved almost 20% on room rates! The great thing about Moon Palace is it’s three hotels in one location. The Grand, which is the high end property, Nizuc which is the mid range property and Sunshine which is the most affordable property.  All three were fantastic and each had so much to offer. If you are staying in The Grand you have access to all three properties, but if you are staying in one of the other two, you have access to Nizuc and Sunset but can buy a day pass for the Grand. They have trolleys and golf carts that tote you around to different locations, but we also found the walk so nice along the ocean.

We visited all three properties multiple times and I would have to say, I would return to all of them again. The water park and feeding the iguanas through the kids club were my youngest favorites. The swim up taco restaurant at The Grand and the multiple pool games throughout the day was my teen’s favorite. I personally loved the swim up bar and Brazilian Steakhouse in Nizuc. My husband loved the pool bar at Sunrise that only had swings for seats. All 26 of us loved the nightly shows. The pools are so big at all the resorts, you always felt like you had the place to yourself. Even during Spring Break.

Halfway through our trip we got notice that school was being postponed, borders were closing and the virus was escalating in the US. We did not see any changes really at the hotel at this time, except people were clearing out. We left a few days later and the airport was PACKED. Everyone was trying to just get home. Little did we know how different everything would be when our wheels touched down back in Dallas.

Moon Palace is a fantastic family hotel. We would go back in a heartbeat. Book Now
